Police Brutality…Again in NY

Clearly an issue that has not had enough serious attention paid to it despite the number of lives affected and the amount of lip service paid.

The Worthiness and the Promise – Obama`s Nobel Prize Award

The response to this announcement has been the most irritating piece of news this week.  Some people giving their views appear largely ignorant of the Nobel Prize history.  Even those who should know better ( The Economist) say it is too early in his presidency..he hasn`t done anything yet.  The implication is that the Nobel Prize worthiness somehow rests on the changes that a President makes through his office as president.  No real rule.  No sustained trend.  In fact most Nobel Prize winners were never Presidents.  Most of what is achieved for humanity IS NOT achieved by persons in political office.  It is achieved most times IN SPITE OF those IN political office.   It is therefore of no relevance that Obama is early in his Presidency.  There is no Presidential Nobel Prize award for which the accomplishments of the political office are judged.  What is relevant is whether he as a person (who happens to be a president) has done much to change the world in which we live for the better, especially with respect to peaceful relations.  The answer is “Yes”.

Worldwide Hope

Obama`s image has transformed almost overnight the world`s thought process with respect to America.  America was seen as the Bully of the World just 2 years ago, waging war against all included in the nebulous “Axis of Evil”.  The world is glad to have left that comic-book era and open a new book with America`s new image as a thoughtful mediator of conflict more than an aggressor of war.

Hopes for a changed world have never been so frenzied before the inaguration of Obama as the most powerful political leader in the world.   Hopes were genuine that many lofty ideals could be reached.  The hopelessness that had gripped planet Earth prior to Obama disappeared overnight.  Gays were hoping, third world nations were hoping;  blacks, latinos, jews.  All felt that they could finally reach a point of sustenance on this Earth through this one human being.  On the world stage Obama is probably the first president to be greeted with superstar welcome in every country.  The image of the whole world being willing to listen to this one human being is the core of international unity.

Tolerance

Obama being billed as the first black president also helped to transform the way blacks are seen today and raised the level of hope among balcks world wide.  By his inclusion of many educated and accomplished blacks in his staff of officials, and advisors e raised beacons of hope to the balck community and the conversation rolled on about which black kid could become president in time.   Never before could this have been a serious conversation.  When a whole race moves from a position of feeling excluded to a feeling of inclusion in the nation they call home, I think that a large step toward racial peace has been made.

So no walls have fallen, no accords signed.   That is the frame in which we see the accomplishments of political leaders.  But not so for those who really change the world.  Mohammud Yunnus, didn`t sign any international economic accords, but he certainly has transformed economic thought the world over.

Al Gore won a Nobel Prize for work in an area still disputed by science.  It I had to pick an award that broke the bar to a new low, that would be the one.

UPDATE 10/10/2009:

Going Rogue or Going Rouge

There is a difference.

Obviously anything Palin does is hot news.  So hot that on the Barnes and Noble website there are 218 ratings and 44 reviews for a book that has not even been released yet.  How stupid could Barnes and Noble be to put up reviews by people who first admit they HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK!  What on Earth does “review” mean?

This is part of the abysmal ignorance that defines some places on Planet Earth.

UPDATE: 10/6/2009

Letterman invokes Palin in apology

Clearly old Dave expects a major spot of trouble, and is trying to get as much sympathy and support as possible in advance of the actual case. It is infuriating that in this country the media is a legitimate court. Legitimate and binding. Dave knows that a good decision in the media at this stage will go a long way in the actual judicial system.

So tangled is the messy garbage that ties entertainment to everything else that a joke on late night TV may be his undoing, or at least he feels strongly enough about it to aoplogize for the second time.

ABC Just Being Stupidly Sensational

The “economy” is a hot topic these days. And what more than a hot topic to leave you hot and bothered? The latest not so hot aspect of the hot “economy” issue is ABCs recent 20/20 program, video now on youtube.com.

1) This is not the average person struggling to live within his means and not getting by. You need evidence? Look at the house!

2) All has not been told in the story! Doesn`t an MBA from UCLA count for something when looking for a job?

Or are things so bad that all recent MBA grads will have to sell pizza? Not to mention his experience in the industry should net him some kind of work. Unless….unless there are things we do not know about yet. What about his contacts/friends from the financial industry?

And where did he work again? What happened to the others? Or what do they think of him now?

This is not journalism!

The R-Word

Aaarrrgghh!!!

Are we heading towards something like the Morse code soon?

It is probably the only politically correct form of communication left.

I Need My Prostate Checked…NOW!!

The full hundred on this coming soon. For now I`ll just close my ears and eyes as some American medical institutions continue to drive fear into aging men.
